I work on an experiment set in Japan. It’s a very big experiment because there are more or less 500 people working on it!

We produce neutrinos (tiny tiny particles) on one side of Japan and we throw them to the other side (300 km away) where we see which of the neutrinos we produced manage to get to the other side!

Why are we doing this? It has to do with the matter and anti-matter (anti-matter is just like matter evil twin 😉 if matter and anti-matter touch each other there’s a sort of explosion and lots of energy is released). We live in a universe that is dominated by matter (all around us it’s matter, not anti-matter), yet the Big Bang created matter and anti-matter equally, so something must have happened after the Big Bang, otherwise we wouldn’t have been here! So in my experiment, we are looking to understand this 🙂
