Hahaha I didn’t know I wanted to be a scientist as a child, but if I had, no one would have been surprised because I was always a huge nerd.
And my parents would have loved it.
As an adult, people tell me that it’s hard to get into science and stay in a steady job position. 😕

I am similar to David, I didn’t know that I wanted to be a scientist for my job. I don’t think I realised my true passion for a career in science until I was about 22!

But a job is very different to a life choice. I like to think that almost everyone is a scientist really. If you ask questions, you are a scientist! In fact, sharh044, your question is a perfect example of something one of my social scientist friends might ask someone; so whether you think it or not, you are also a scientist!!

As a child I was changing my mind very often, one week I wanted to become an astronaut and travel around space, another week I wanted to be a writer and describe wonderful places around the world, another one I wanted to be a doctor and save people’s life!

I think nobody took me really seriously with science until I turned 19 and I started studying Physics at uni, at that point the general reaction were between “Woooow, you must be really smart!” to “Tough choice… good luck!” and “Well, I guess someone is never going to make loads of money” 😀

My mum was not particularly happy in fact she tried very hard to convince me to become a banker, however my father always said I should do whatever I really want.

It was when I was 7. First everybody smiled but later on when I applied and finished the university and became a biologist, they said they were sorry and it is great that I knew it and managed to achieve it.
