There are 2 main ways we might be able to stop polluting – awareness and technological advances.

With awareness, we hope to tell companies and people how damaging it is to the earth to pollute it, and we start cutting down the number of wasteful things we do, like using plastic bags or using nuclear energy.

The other thing we can do is develop new technologies to help clean up the pollution we have now, or lower the levels of pollution we produce in the future. But that might take a lot of time, and who knows if we will find a solution, or maybe the solution will create other problems.

As for the question of will we be able to stop polluting in time to save the Earth? That is a question I honestly don’t know the answer to 😐

New technology just like this one: http://www.iflscience.com/environment/19-year-old-develops-machine-clean-oceans-plastic

A 19-year-old has developed an ocean cleanup array that could remove 7,250,000 tons of plastic from the world’s oceans 😀

It is very unlikely that we will be able to stop river and sea pollution. The problem with water pollution is that it is mostly a product of fertiliser used in agriculture, and agriculture (food) is essential for humans. Organic agriculture that doesn’t use fertiliser is not really a solution because this will never feed the ever increasing numbers of people living on our planet.

One solution, as the others have pointed out, is new technology that can help clean up the pollution that we produce. This technology is young though, and might not catch up with pace of the problem.
